Background checks for carnival workers
(2008-08-06)
(WOUB) - Athens County Prosecutor Dave Warren says all of the carnival workers at the Athens County fair this year have passed criminal background checks.

Warren says none of the employees of Florida carnival company JCJ Amusement have any outstanding warrants nor have any of them been convicted of sex offenses.

The Athens County prosecutor has been outspoken in his insistence that all Athens County fair workers undergo background checks.

Last year, Warren testified at the Statehouse in favor of a bill that would require carnival operators to provide the names of their employees to local authorities in order to have background checks completed.

The bill was introduced by State Representative Jimmy Stewart but died in a House Committee.

Two years ago, Warren obtained a court order to obtain payroll records from JCJ in order to do background checks.

At that time, he found four workers who were on parole, 10 who had inaccurate social security numbers and who others had fake ID's.

Warren says JCJ Amusements fully cooperated with the background checks this year.
