Meigs Co. residents consider new landfill permit
(2008-08-04)
(WOUB) - Meigs County residents will get a chance this week to voice their thoughts on a new landfill permit associated with AMP-Ohio's proposed power plant in Letart Falls.

The Ohio's Environmental Protection Agency will hold a public meeting Tuesday evening at Southern Elementary School in Racine.

The proposed landfill would accept flyash, bottom ash and possibly gypsum from the coal-fired plant.

AMP-Ohio's connected wastewater discharge permit would allow the plant to release limited amounts of pollutants into the Ohio River and its tributaries.

But the Ohio E.P.A. says the application process ensures the project will comply with Ohio's water quality standards.

The meeting is expected to provide more information on issues considered before a decision on the final permit is made.

The group is also accepting written comments mailed to their Columbus headquarters.
