Brown Backs Job Training Bill
(2008-07-31)
(WOUB) - U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown says new bipartisan legislation could help pair emerging industries with skilled workers in Ohio.

Brown, a Democrat, says the jobs training bill would provide funding for dislocated workers who are looking for specialized training in new industries like bioscience and nanotechnology.

Ohio's increasing demand for highly skilled workers has led Governor Strickland and other state leaders to propose changes to higher education.

The state wants to bring the amount spent per student to the national average, bring tuition costs to among the lowest in the nation and increase enrollment by nearly one-half.

Brown says his legislation along with these state efforts could help prepare southeast ohio workers for a changing workplace.

Brown is introducing the legislation this week.
