One Athens Co. bomb disarmed
(2008-07-29)
(WOUB) - One bomb down and one to go...that's the latest from the two post offices in Athens County closed since this morning because of pipe bombs found at each location.

An Ohio National Guard unit and a Columbus bomb squad disarmed an explosive device at the Guysville post office this afternoon.

They found an unknown liquid in the device and a number of papers, all of which were turned over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Another explosive device remains at the Stewart post office.

Both are along State Route 329...which has been closed in the area.

Authorities have also ordered residents within two blocks to evacuate.

It all started just after six this morning when a call came in that explosive devices were attached to the back door of each post office.

Athens County Sheriff Vern Castle says authorities are still investigating whether or not the bombs are connected to a robbery at the nearby Coolville branch of the Hocking Valley bank.

The robbery happened about four hours after the first call came in about the pipe bombs.
