Should your health information be shared?
(WOUB) - If you had an accident away from home and needed to see a doctor, would that doctor have access to your medical history in a timely manner?

Probably not.

But efforts are being made to fix that.

Steve Swart is executive officer of Doctor's Hospital in Nelsonville, one of 20 health care organizationsl in the region now implementing the Appalachian Health Information Exchange.

The information will be shared electronically, and ultimately officials hope that will happen nationwide.

But it will cost lots of money and that's an issue.

So is privacy, says Swart.

O'Bleness Health System, Hocking Valley Community Hospital and the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine are also involved in the project.
