Nelsonville explosion update
(2008-07-24)
Damage from the explosion in Nelsonville
(WOUB) - The area around a downtown Nelsonville business is still blocked off as investigators try to piece together a possible pipe bomb explosion early this morning.

Nelsonville Police got a call about the blast at about 3:20 a.m. at Wilson Pro Photo on Columbus Street.

The explosion blew out the front window of the camera shop but no one was injured in the incident.

The Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation, the State Fire Marshall's office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms are helping local authorities in the investigation.

"It was an explosive device and at this point we are not really releasing any details of what type of device it was, but it did have shrapnel in it so it was a device that was intended to injury someone or destroy property," says Shane Cartmill.

Cartmill is the public information officer with the State Fire Marshall's office.

Police have no suspects or motive at this time.
