Jackson County murder case sentancing
(WOUB) - A man accused of participating in a murder-for-hire scheme was sentenced Tuesday to five years in prison after pleading guilty to extortion.

The Jackson County prosecutor's office says 49-year-old Randy Faught of Jackson received the maximum sentence for his role in a plot to kill 72-year-old Carol Evans, who was strangled in her rural home on March 26.

Two others have been sentenced in connection with the case as well.

30-year-old Terry Vance of Jackson, was identified as Mrs. Evans' killer and was sentenced to 18 years in prison for conspiracy to aggravated murder.

And 28-year-old Heather Speakman of Richmond Dale received 20 years in prison in connection with the plot.

Evans's husband David faces the death penalty if convicted of conspiring to murder.

According to the Jackson County prosecutor's office, all three of the plot participants have agreed to testify against Mr. Evans when he comes to trial.
