Strickland Declares State of Emergency
(WOUB) - Governor Strickland has declared a state of emergency for Perry County after this week's storm that roared through with winds of up to 110 mph.

The Governor's declaration allows for state resources to be available to help repair damage caused by the storm.

The National Weather Service says it wasn't a tornado but fierce straight-line winds that damaged homes and businesses and uprooted trees around 4 a.m. yesterday.

No injuries were reported.

The Ohio Department of Transportation is assisting county officials with debris removal and the Ohio Emergency Management Agency is also helping with cleanup and recovery efforts.

Perry County Emergency Management Director Rita Spicer says there is still a lot of work to be done.

American Electric Power is reporting that almost 20 percent of its Perry County customers were still out this afternoon.
