West Virginia's Unemployment Rate Rising
(WOUB) - West Virginia's unemployment rate
climbed four-tenths of a percentage point to 5.5 percent in June, fueled by drops in season work.

Workforce West Virginia reported that the number of unemployed residents grew by 4,100 last month to a total of roughly 45,600.

The agency said most of the decline came in seasonal declines in government and education jobs.

Major gains included 1,500 jobs added in leisure and hospitality and 1,200 in professional services.

West Virginia's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 5.3 percent in June. The national jobless rate was 5.5 percent.
