Wilson announces educational grants
(WOUB) - Two southeast Ohio School Districts and a YMCA will receive major grants from the U.S. Department of Education for health and physical education programs.

Democratic Congressman Charlie Wilson of Ohio's sixth District just announced the funding for the Marietta Family YMCA in Washington County and the Bellaire and Shadyside Local School Districts in Belmont County.

All funded Districts will receive the money under educational programs benefiting health and physical education.

Superintendent Terry Brinker says his Shadyside district will receive the funding for three years which would be a total of $1.1 million.

Brinker says they are developing the program.

"What we're wanting to expand and enhance are physical educational program to allow our students to address issues like fitness, nutrition, eating and the overall wellness of each of our children," he said.

Marietta Family YMCA will receive about $265,000 this year and could get a total of nearly $800,000 for three years.

The biggest amount will go to Bellaire with about $630,000 this year and as much as $2.5 million over four years.
