Athens woman pleas guilty in OU grad student traffic death
(WOUB) - An Athens woman has pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide in the 2007 death of an Ohio University international student.

Twenty seven year old April Hankinson admitted to hitting Abishek Singh with her SUV in a two-car crash on Richland Avenue in Athens last June.

Police say Hankinson ran a red light on State Route 682 and collided with another car.

The impact spun the SUV onto the sidewalk where 22-year-old Singh was crossing the bridge.

Police say Singh was thrown into the Hocking River, but no witnesses saw him.

His body was discovered in the water the next day.

At a change of plea hearing today, Hankinson apologized for the accident.

She was sentenced to four years in prison, had her driver's license suspended for eight years and ordered to pay more than $15,000 in restitution to Singh's family as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors.

Singh was from India and studying for a doctorate in physics from Ohio University.
