Athens city council discusses green energy projects
(WOUB) - Athens City Councilmember Elahu Gosney says "We have a moral responsibility to act at the local level" to reduce greenhouse gases.

"The time to act is now", he says.

Gosney issued his statement to coincide with the recent Athens appearance of Paul Fenn of Local Power, an organization which helps cities establish Community Choice Aggregation networks.

Fenn talked about ways that cities like Athens have made changes to get rid of their existing power company in favor of an alternative arrangement, and do it without driving up the cost.

Becoming part of a Community Choice Aggregation network would allow Athens to buy into green energy projects.

Fenn also talked about a less drastic means of decreasing power usage, making the city more energy efficient.

If Athens wants to become active in a Community Choice Aggregation network, residents would have to approve it through a ballot issue.
