Nelsonville jail under review
(WOUB) - Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail officials are reviewing policies after the facility ranked fourth in sexual victimization in a federal study.

The Department of Justice results show six percent of surveyed inmates said they'd been involved in a sexual encounter against their will at the jail, which is in Nelsonville and houses inmates from Athens, Hocking, Perry and Morgan counties.

That's higher than the percentage of incidents reported directly to jail officials and surprising to Warden Jeremy Tolson, who says he's already trying to address the issue.

Tolson says the discrepancy with the numbers could be because inmates may be afraid to report an incident.

The Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail was randomly selected to participate in the 2007 survey
