Goodbye for OU quarters?
(WOUB) - Today could be the day the quarters versus semesters debate is ended at Ohio University.

The matter is up for action by the Board of Trustees, which yesterday heard a report from the administration recommending the switch.

"Students have a very hard time understanding how they are going to transfer from a semester institution to a quarter institution, and we lose a lot of students," said executive vice president and provost Kathy Krendl.

She says implementing a semester academic calendar at OU would likely take three years and cost up to $500,000, not including indirect costs.

OU has studied and rejected semesters in the past but this time there's pressure from Columbus to do away with quarters. The regents chancellor wants all state schools using the same schedule and OU is one of the last hold outs.
