Post Office Dedicated
(2008-06-16)
(WOUB) - Former astronaut and U.S. senator John
Glenn says it's a bit overwhelming seeing his name on a post office.

The postal facility in his eastern Ohio hometown of Cambridge is
now formally called the John Herschel Glenn Jr. Post Office Building.

At Monday's rededication, Glenn noted that the post office was where he signed up for military service, so it's where his aviation and space career really started.

Glenn was born in Cambridge in 1921, though he's more closely associated with New Concord, 8 miles away, where he grew up and where the John and Annie Glenn museum is located.

The federal legislation to rename the Cambridge post office was sponsored by Democratic Congressman Zack Space, who calls Glenn "a model of public service."
