Fighting Against Possible Closures of Plastech's Plants in Ohio
(WOUB) - State Representative Jennifer Garrison is vowing to fight efforts to move operations at Plastech's Byesville plant out of Ohio.

She helped get the state attorney general to file a friend of the court brief that asks the Federal Bankruptcy Court to consider the economic impact a pending sale and subsequent closures would have on the local community.

The filing asks the court in Detroit to favor potential buyers that will maintain existing operations at Plastech's Ohio locations.

Garrison, a Democrat from Marietta, says, "I know tough decisions must be made when a company like Plastech faces bankruptcy, but I feel moving 1,400 jobs out of Ohio is not the best decision for any of the parties involved in this case."

The Byesville plant has been there since 1963 and employs over 400 people.

Plastech Engineered Products, an automotive parts maker, is based in Detroit, Michigan and entered into Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the fall of 2007.

The company employs approximately 1,400 people at eight plants in Ohio.

Garrison says the Federal Bankruptcy Court will consider Ohio's argument at a hearing scheduled for Wednesday.
