Ohio University Students Lobby in D.C.
(WOUB) - There's more to doctoring than attending to the sick. There's also patient advocacy, like "D.O. Day on the Hill."

Doctors and students from the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine went to Washington D.C. for a day of lobbying.

OU COM Assistant Dean Peter Bell says, among other things, they tried to get lawmakers to support the Save Medicare Act of 2008.

The group of 40 students and faculty from OU met with Ohio US Senator Sherrod Brown and Southeast Ohio Congressman Charlie Wilson.

Bell says they also talked about health policy designed to prevent medical problems rather than fixing them later.

The OU group that was on Capitol Hill was part of a national effort coordinated by the American Osteopathic Association.
