Zanesville Schools Audit
(WOUB) - The Zanesville City School District has some work to do to get it's finances in order.

That's according to the results of a recently released audit by Ohio Auditor Mary Taylor.

Some of the findings from that audit include approving expenditures that exceed estimated revenues, spending more money than board members approved for the annual budget, and entering into an employee severance agreement without verifying that funds were available.

Taylor says if these things are left unchecked, the district could fall further into financial instability.

The school district was placed in fiscal caution in March 2006.

The audit also warns the district against destroying documents which detail the use of federal grant funds.

Federal regulations require a three-year retention period for those type of documents and destruction of the documents could put future funding in jeopardy.
