DuPont Co. finds elevated cancer rates among employees
(2008-06-09)
(WOUB) - Government records show DuPont Co. has discovered evidence of elevated cancer rates among employees at its Washington Works plant near Parkersburg.

According to the records, DuPont says it doesn't know why there may be a fivefold increase in certain cancers for employees at the plant.

Nor does DuPont know if the increase is related to the chemical C8.

DuPont reported the information to the Environmental Protection Agency in 2006 and updated the agency the following year.

But the findings have never been released to the public.

Plant manager Bill Hopkins says the company hasn't found a link to exposure at work, but has started a follow-up study.

He says DuPont will keep employees and the EPA updated.
