Ohio University Reaction to Obama's Presidential Nomination
(2008-06-05)
(WOUB) - Barack Obama says the Democratic nomination for president is his and he's urging supporters to "chart a new course for America."

In one sense, that's already happened.

Win or lose in the general election, it's pretty clear that we've entered a new era. An African American apparently will be the presidential candidate for a major political party.

Ohio University professor Pat Cambridge says, "This is a total paradigm shift. Each child will know that this is possible for them one day."

If Obama is going to make it all the way to the White House, he'll need to do well in Ohio, and in this part of the state he's got his work cut out for him.

In Southeast Ohio, Obama got just 28 percent of the vote in the primary, compared to 68 percent for Hilary Clinton.
