Shelter Damaged
(WOUB) - Flash flooding in Athens County is not only affecting its people- animals are feeling the effects of bad weather too.

Several dogs ran loose when storms knocked down fences at Max and Stella's No Kill Shelter near Athens.

Neighbors of the make-shift shelter say the owner lives out of state - and doesn't properly take care of the animals.

Athens Resident Phillip Goldsberry says he saw that the shelter was a mess when he drove by this morning.

He says even though he commends the shelter for trying to save these dogs, the efforts may not be enough.

Athens County Commissioner Lenny Eliason says officials from the County Dog Shelter were trying to round up the loose animals and take care of them.
