Prices for garbage and pay increases for non-union workers
(WOUB) - The price for hauling away your garbage and recycling is going up by one dollar a month in Athens.

City Council approved the increase last night.

Councilmember Nancy Bain says higher fuel prices are the reason behind the hike.

The vote for the new rate was unanimous.

But the good news is that many workers should have no problem affording it due to a new ordinance.

Non-union personnel on the Athens City payroll are getting a one thousand dollar pay increase.

Councilmember Jim Sands says the raise is effective July 1st.

It was felt non-union salaries were too low compared to union salaries.

The pay raise ordinance was adopted last night.
