Fewer deaths on Ohio highways
(2008-05-28)
(WOUB) - The number of people killed in crashes in Ohio this Memorial Day weekend was the lowest it's been in 38 years....and at least one official says the reason, indirectly, is the high price of gasoline.

"I think some of it has to be contributed to high fuel costs...fewer people are driving, so the traffic's down, and also people aren't driving as fast, they're slowing down," says Dave Allwine is commander at the Athens post of the Highway Patrol.

The Patrol reports six people were killed in accidents over the weekend.

Half of those involved the use of alcohol.
