NAACP award granted to Students Teaching About Racism in Society
(2008-05-19)
(WOUB) - Voting is something many people take for granted -- sometimes to the point where they don't do it.

But the Ohio University group Students Teaching About Racism in Society wants people to make their voices heard through the ballot box...and has been given an award by the NAACP for their efforts.

Students Teaching about Racism in Society - STARS - registered fellow students to vote as part of its general mission to fight discrimination.

Lauren Logan is president of STARS.

Logan says racism is still a very big problem...and in Athens it affects not just African Americans but international students, too.

Logan says voting gives people a chance to express their opinions and beliefs and some control over issues like race.
