Higher gas prices put Athenians in a pinch
(WOUB) - At $3.95 a gallon, gas prices in the Athens area are well above the state average, and most people are feeling the pinch.

But the pain is more severe for those on a fixed income.

Athens County Job and Family Services Director Jack Frech says these people are being forced to cut spending on essentials like food, medicine and housing.

Athens area motorists are paying about 12 cents more per gallon than other Ohioans.

The state average for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.83.
