OU alumnus gives large gift for Baker Center renovation
(WOUB) - The new building that will house Ohio University's College of Communication will be called the Schoonover Center for Communication.

OU alumnus Steven Schoonover became the namesake for the future facility when he donated the largest cash gift the university has ever gotten from a living alumnus -- $7.5 million.

The money will go toward the nearly $40 million total cost of the project.

When the building is complete, it will house all five schools in the College of Communication, along with the WOUB Center for Public media.

OU President Roderick McDavis says Schoonover's gift will elevate the quality of education communication students get at Ohio University.

The new building will combine the old Baker Center and the Radio and Television Building.

Completion is expected in 2013.
