(WOUB) - A House lawmaker says Attorney General
Marc Dann offered to resign if an investigation into his scandal-plagued office was delayed.

State Representative Robert Hagan -- a Youngstown Democrat -- says Dann wanted a bill allowing the state watchdog to investigate his office to take effect in 90 days.

Hagan says Dann asked House Speaker Jon Husted in a phone call today to remove the measure, which will take effect as soon as Governor Strickland signs the bill.

Hagan says Husted refused.

Both the House and Senate approved the bill today.

Dann's office says in a news release that the attorney general has not resigned.

Ohio Democratic Party Chairman Chris Redfern has said that Strickland has "almost blanket authority" to appoint a successor if Dann does step down.
