Heroin Use in Southeast Ohio
(WOUB) - Athens County Sheriff Vern Castle says the arrest of Mark Dowdy and six other Athens County residents is a step in the right direction.

Nelsonville police officers arrested Dowdy at this home yesterday evening for his involvement in a conspiracy to distribute more than 1,000 grams of heroin, a drug that is gaining popularity in Southeast Ohio.

Affordability clearly adds to the appeal of Heroin, which serves as a substitute for prescription drugs.

On the street, Oxycotine, a high power pain killer, sells for upwards of 60 dollars a pill.

A fix of heroin can be purchased for as little as 10-dollars.

Heroin may cost less, but the risk factor of using it is very high.

Despite the danger of using Heroin, officials expect its use will continue in Southeast Ohio.

Local authorities say that yesterday's bust wont put an end to heroin use in our area, but they hope it will at least slow it down.
