Nearly a ton of pot found destined for Jackson Co.
(WOUB) - A major drug bust in Jackson County nets nearly a ton of marijuana.

Jackson County Sheriff John Shasteen says it all started with a tip from North Carolina State Police about a confiscated shipment of drugs destined for Jackson County.

North Carolina authorities found 985 pounds of marijuana hidden in a blow up toy castle and to be delivered to a Jackson County address by truck.

With the help of law enforcement agencies from Ohio and North Carolina, as well as federal authorities, Shasteen says the marijuana was flown to Ohio to set up a sting operation.

He says while in the midst of that operation another truck came from Texas set to deliver ANOTHER near one thousand pounds of marijuana hidden in a similar toy castle.

All totalled, Jackson County Deputies arrested five people on federal drug charges and seized more than $4-million worth of pot.

Shasteen says this is by far the largest drug seizure in Jackson County history.

Authorities believe the drugs were going to be distributed to several counties in Southern and Southeastern Ohio and parts of West Virginia.
