Clinton Striking Southeast Ohio Story
(2008-04-06)
(WOUB) - Hillary Rodham Clinton's presidential
campaign says it will strike from her standard speech a thirdhand story she heard while campaigning in southern Ohio.

An aide says Clinton will stop using the story of a Meigs County
woman and her stillborn child.

The woman died after the stillbirth.

The New York Times today reported questions about the anecdote's
authenticity.

Clinton spokesman Mo Elleithee says candidates often repeat stories they hear on the trail.

He says the campaign didn't check out the story fully.

A Meigs County sheriff's deputy told Clinton the story while she
was campaigning in Ohio ahead of the March 4th primary.

Officials with O'Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens have disputed the story, saying the pregnant woman was insured and that she received care through an obstetric practice affiliated with the hospital.
