Ohio EPA listens to water quality concerns in Racine
(WOUB) - A crowd gathered at Southern Elementary School in Racine last night to speak both in favor of and against a proposed AMP-Ohio power plant.

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency listened to comments on proposed wetlands and water quality impacts related to the plant, which is supposed to be built in Letart Township in Meigs County.

Local workers, including a large group of union carpenters, came out in support of the jobs a power plant would create.

But some people say having to worry about the safety of their drinking water just isn't worth it.

The plans include a wastewater treatment plant that would empty into the Ohio River and a landfill.

Written comments on the project's impact on the water will be accepted until April 9th.

Then the EPA will have to decide whether to approve the project, make changes or deny AMP-Ohio's permit application.
