LIMS system aids in investigations
(2008-04-02)
(WOUB) - If you watch crime shows such as CSI, you've seen investigators gather evidence and submit it to a lab for analysis.

Now, Ohio law enforcement personnel who do that have a new way of keeping track of what they've submitted, and a better chance of convicting the bad guys.

The Ohio Attorney General's office calls it the Laboratory Information Management System.

By having a secure Web site, investigators from around the state can have access to test results for materials they've sent off to the Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation for processing.

Athens County Prosecutor David Warren says the Laboratory Information System will ease the investigation process by granting all involved one place to log on and access evidence.

Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann says several counties have expressed their desire for something like the new system, which Warren says will make things easier in Athens County.

LIMS is available to all law enforcement agencies through a Web-based network that has been used in Ohio since 2003.
