OU president praises new higher ed plan for Ohio
(WOUB) - "This is a good day for education in the state of Ohio and a good day for us."

The words of Ohio University President Roderick McDavis talking about a new plan for higher education in Ohio.

The main goal of the plan is to have more college graduates.

OU's number two - executive vice president Kathy Krendl - calls the plan "ambitious" and "exciting."

President McDavis says "under the Strickland administration, higher education is at the top of the priority list."

He says also that Regents Chancellor Eric Fingerhut "has shown great vision and leadership" with the plan, which McDavis says incorporates many of the same initiatives in OU's five-year planning process.

One item in the plan that could be the source of conflict is Fingerhut's call for "a common academic calendar across of the universities in the state."

McDavis says Ohio University would weigh the issues before making any decision about abandoning the current system of quarters.
