Steve Free to receive award from Governor Strickland

(WOUB) - A singer-songwriter from southern Ohio and a politician from southern Ohio will re-unite next month at a ceremony in Columbus.

Steve Free will get a Governor's Award For the Arts from Ted Strickland.

Free and Governor Strickland are from Duck Run in Scioto County.

Free is a folk singer who was nominated three times before winning this award for an outstanding contribution to the arts.

Free is a five time American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers award winner for songwriting and has released five C-D's

He says it's his Appalachian roots that have been the inspiration for his work.

Free will officially receive his award April 16th.

In the meantime, he's traveling, performing, and preparing to release a new C-D this summer.
