Local writer compared with greats
(WOUB) - Knockemstiff, Ohio, may sound like a made-up name, but it's not.

It's a for-real town in Ross County.

"Knockemstiff" the book, however, is not so real.

It's fiction from Knockemstiff native Donald Ray Pollock, who still lives in the area.

The "Wall Street Journal" recently wrote that Pollock may be "the next important voice in American fiction."

Pollock began writing when he was 45 years old.

He's now 53 and has been compared to the likes of Flannery O'Connor and William Gay.

"Knockemstiff" -- a collection of short stories -- went on sale just last week.

Pollock says he's already working on his next book -- a novel about a serial killer.
