Group hails announcement of advisory board for old nuclear site near Piketon
(WOUB) - It's about time!

That's the reaction of a citizen's group to the announcement that an advisory board will be established for the Department of Energy site near Piketon.

Geoffrey Sea is a Pike County resident and founder of the Southern Ohio Neighbors Group -- SONG.
He says other major D-O-E sites have had advisory boards "for many years".

The Citizens Advisory Board is supposed to be in place by June.

A D.O.E official says the board is expected to "enhance transparency in government."

But SONG says the board "would only have jurisdiction over proposed cleanup at the old Gaseous Diffusion Plant site."

The group says it will appeal to the Secretary of Energy to include jurisdiction over "the entire site as well as all leasing, siting and end-use policies."
