Bracing for Floods
(2008-03-18)
(WOUB) - Communities across Ohio are bracing for possible flooding, as rain falls heavily while melting continues from the
massive stormstorm earlier this month.

Flood warnings have been issued along a number of rivers and streams that already are spilling out of their banks.

They include the Scioto River in southern Ohio, which forecasters expect will crest in Piketon later this week at a level seven and a-half feet above flood stage.

Just to the east, in Vinton County, public schools dismissed early on Tuesday because of rising water on roads.

The National Weather Service anticipates the rain will be
heaviest in the southern half of the state, with up to five inches possible through Wednesday in some areas.
