OU graduate student senate works on health care reform
(WOUB) - Ohio University graduate students are working on reforming health care for graduate teaching assistants.

Currently, students purchase their own health insurance and receive no subsidies.

Graduate Student Senate President Dominic Barbato says this is a huge financial burden that needs to be addressed.

The graduate student senate has constructed a proposal for the university that would include a 15 percent health insurance subsidy.

Barbato says a sum of $150,000 would be reallocated, and the amount would increase 5 percent for each of the next five years.

This comes as members of the gradudate student senate are discussing the possibility of unionization.

There will be another meeting in the near future when a representative from the United Auto Workers will speak about collective bargaining.
