Former Congressman Heads to Halfway House
(2008-02-21)
(WOUB) - Prison spokesman James Robinson confirmed today that Ney left the prison Tuesday.

Ney, a six-term Republican from central Ohio, resigned in November 2006 after pleading guilty in a congressional bribery
scandal.

He acknowledged trading his influence for golf trips, campaign donations and other gifts arranged by lobbyist Jack Abramoff and his associates.

Ney is set for release in August when he will have served nearly a year and a half.

The 53-year-old Ney earned about nine months off his original 30-month sentence because he completed treatment for alcohol problems.

The move to the halfway house had been expected as a transition to Ney's release.
