Former DNC Chair Wilhelm endorses Obama
(2008-02-13)
(WOUB) - An Athens County native who led Bill Clinton's 1992 presidential bid is endorsing Senator Barack Obama today, passing over the wife of his one-time boss.

David Wilhelm says Obama can build a coalition of Democrats, independents and Republicans needed to win the general election.

The endorsement helps Obama in the superdelegate category, in which he currently trails Hillary Clinton.

Obama pulled ahead of Clinton in pledged delegates after sweeping Tuesday's contests in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia.

Wilhelm says he will try to convince superdelegates to go with Obama using his influence as a former Democratic National Committee chairman.
