School stabbing victim OK after surgery
(WOUB) - The teacher who was stabbed by her
estranged husband as her fifth grade students looked on yesterday morning was doing fine after surgery.

That's according to Rebecca Bennett, the lawyer for Christi Layne.

Bennett tells The Columbus Dispatch that Layne was recovering at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia.

Police in the southern Ohio town of Portsmouth say that Layne's
husband -- William Layne -- was the attacker. He was found
dead when officers entered his home at around 1:30 p.m.

Police believe the attack on Layne is linked to the stabbing of another woman in Portsmouth yesterday.

Last night, an overflow crowd jammed St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Portsmouth for a prayer service.

Many said they did not know the victims but came to show support
for those affected by the attacks.
