Carey to Strickland: Don't jump right to Rainy Day Fund for budget woes
(2008-01-28)
(WOUB) - It's been about a week since Governor Ted Strickland announced that Ohio could be looking at a budget shortfall of at least $733 million due to the slowing economy.

State Senator John Carey blames some of the predicament on increases in Medicaid spending.

Carey - a Republican from Wellston - says Strickland should make cuts before leaning on the $1 billion Rainy Day Fund to set things straight.

Governor Strickland is asking state agencies to start thinking about where cuts could be made.

Carey says he believes education won't be affected if the state tightens its belt.
