Safety officials say 'ring in 2008 with a designated driver'
(WOUB) - Officials are urging Ohio motorists to
make a safe trip into 2008.

The Department of Public Safety and the State Highway Patrol says New Year's revelers need to make sure someone stays sober to get behind the wheel for the drive home.

The patrol says during the last New Year's holiday period, eight people died in crashes on Ohio roads, and most of those accidents were alcohol-related.

The patrol's superintendent, Col. Richard Collins, says extra troopers will be out on the highways, ushering in the arrival of 2008 by watching for impaired drivers.

Nearly 350 arrests were made by troopers last New Year's.
