Monroe Sheriff's Department gets funding for safety upgrades
(2007-12-21)
(WOUB) - Monroe County Sheriff Tim Price is surprised but happy after hearing that his department will soon be getting $70,500 from the Federal Government.

"The press release that we have and the e-mail that we received says that there was I believe $70,500 coming to Monroe County, and I'm just ecstatic because we haven't had any money in our equipment line item since I've been in office," Price said.

Price says he was expecting $25,000, if that.

The money - which is contained in the new government spending bill - will be used to install radar units and digital eye-witness video systems in cruisers.

Price says the video system is a big upgrade from what deputies are working with currently and it will help keep them safe.

"Well it's gonna be a big safety feature for our officers obviously," Price said. "A couple years back we had a VHS recording system but those have been inoperable for years."

Sheriff Price says if there's any money left over after buying the radar and cameras, it will probably be spent on safety equipment.
