City Council passes percent for art measure
(WOUB) - In the future, if Athens spends $1 million on a building project, the city will also spend $10,000 on art for the project.

The new policy is outlined in an ordinace adopted last night by city council.

Councilwoman Carol Patterson sponsored the ordinance, which passed on a vote of 4-2.

Citing cost concerns, Councilwoman Bojinka Bishop was one of those to oppose the percent for art measure.

The policy encourages - but does not mandate - private builders to also invest in art for their projects.
