Bebb arraigned for murder
(2007-11-28)
(WOUB) - An Athens man accused of killing his father is now being held on a $1 million bond after his arraignment this morning in Athens County Common Pleas Court.

32-year old Jonathan Bebb is charged with aggravated murder in the stabbing death of former Ohio University history professor Phillip Bebb.

Jonathan Bebb's bond was originally set at $250-thousand in Athens County Municipal Court.

Athens County Prosecutor Dave Warren had asked Commons Pleas Judge Michael Ward to raise that amount to $5 million.

Warren says an increase in bond was needed after a psychological evaluation stated that Bebb might be better off being held in jail prior to the trial.

The evaluation, done by Twin Valley Behavioral Healthcare in Columbus, also stated that Bebb is competent to stand trial.

Bebb was not in court and did not enter a plea.

His attorney, Robert Shostak says his client is in the process of undergoing a mental evaluation by a private doctor.

A jury trial is scheduled for February 4th.
