Ohio University announces emergency Web site
(WOUB) - Ohio University has just announced a new emergency-information Web site and a call-in number.

O-U designed the site,, to bring all types of emergency information into one place.

During an incident that could affect the safety of an O-U campus, the emergency page will provide news and updates.

At other times, the site will contain links to emergency and safety information, ranging from advice on what to do if there's an active shooter on campus to preparing for emergencies.

It will also carry news highlights.

A news release says the new emergency information hotline number is 597-1800.

A prerecorded message will give callers a status report on an active emergency, campus closure or other critical incident.

Other campus emergency communication methods include student text messaging, alerts that can run on all campus cable television stations, campus-wide e-mail and methods such as bullhorns, flyers and on-the-ground teams.

The university is also looking for an outdoor voice notification system it can install in seven locations on the Athens campus.
