House passes Space's broadband bill
(2007-11-14)
(WOUB) - A Southeast Ohio congressman's quest to bring broadband internet to Appalachia is taking a small step forward.

Legislation co-sponsored by Zack Space passed the House yesterday to find out exactly WHICH area is in need of high speed internet.

The initiative requires the creation of coverage maps each year by the Federal Communications Commission to determine where broadband access is lacking.

The legislation also authorizes 275 million dollars over the next three years to fund the grants that will support local broadband development partnerships.

Space says Southeast Ohio is going to find it harder to attract new business without high speed internet.
