A plan to keep Lake Snowden viable
(WOUB) - Hocking College has come up with a plan to maintain Lake Snowden as a public recreational resource for camping, fishing, hiking and picnicking.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources says the plan is now under review by local and state groups with an interest in the future of Lake Snowden...which is located near Albany and owned by the college.

O-D-N-R says the public is invited to review the draft plan and provide input at an open house scheduled for January 9th at Lake Snowden.

The Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Athens County Soil and Water Conservation District and the Athens County Commissioners, among others, have met several times over the last six months to talk about the lake.

The goal has been an agreement that will make Snowden's trails, dam and campground safe and viable for public use.

The group has set April 1st as the target date for reopening the lake's campground, which Hocking College closed this year, citing safety concerns.

The campground will remain closed until then to deter vandalism.
