Athens County receives USDA grant
(2007-11-09)
(WOUB) - Is Athens County on the verge of a business boom?

Yes, according to a study by Linda Clark, director of the Ohio University Innovation Center.

To properly prepare, three local development groups are partnering to do a feasability study...which will be paid for by a U-S-D-A Rural Development grant.

Randy Hunt is U-S-D-A Rural Development's state director...and he was in Athens County yesterday to officially award the $48,000 dollar grant.

A 2006 study of 25 local businesses showed that nearly 86% were planning to modernize, renovate or expand...and, in doing so, will spend an estimated 45 million dollars.

Clark says the area is now experiencing a shortage of usable space as a result of the success of local business incubators.

The feasability study will focus on the development of a technology and commerce park.

The lead agency in the project is Hocking, Athens, Perry Community Development.
